As a gift to his brother Theo, Vincent painted one of his favourite subjects: large, flowering branches set against a blue sky. He painted it to celebrate the birth of his godson, who was also named after him, Vincent Willem. He had in mind that the work could be hung over the bed of Theo and his wife. As a symbol of young life, Vincent chose the branches of the almond tree, one of the earliest flowering trees – as early as February – that announce spring. The subject, the sharp outlines, and the placement of the tree in the picture plane is evidence of the inspiration Van Gogh found in Japanese woodblock prints. The Fleurir decorative bolster cushion features Van Gogh''s almond blossom design. The bolster shape and the soft velvet fabric give this cushion a contemporary and luxurious look.
The Paint cushion is made from 55% viscose and 45% cotton with a digital print and a plain green-coloured back made from cotton. The cushion is finished with cord piping. It measures 45 x 45 cm. The cushion cannot be washed in the washing machine and is not suitable for tumble drying. Your purchase supports the work of the Van Gogh Museum. www.vangoghmuseum.com
